HEIC to JPG Converter

Turn iPhone HEIC photos into JPG images in your browser, with no upload and no size limit.

Your files stay on your device — nothing is uploaded.

How to convert HEIC to JPG

  1. Drop your HEIC photo on the box above, or click to choose it.
  2. The first photo also loads a small decoder, so give it a second.
  3. Set the JPG quality with the slider if you want a smaller file.
  4. Press Download to save the JPG.

Why iPhones save photos as HEIC

Since iOS 11 in 2017, iPhones save photos as HEIC by default. HEIC stands for High Efficiency Image Container. It holds the same photo as a JPG at about half the file size, which saves space on your phone. The catch is that many websites, older Windows PCs, and some Android phones cannot open a HEIC file. That is when you need a JPG.

When you need a JPG instead

JPG is the format almost everything accepts. Upload forms for jobs, visas, and schools often reject HEIC. Email programs may not preview it. Older photo editors cannot open it. Turning the photo into a JPG fixes all of that, because JPG has worked on every device for decades. You lose the smaller HEIC file size, but you gain the ability to use the photo anywhere.

Quality and file size

The slider sets the JPG quality. At 92% most people cannot tell the JPG from the original, and the file stays reasonable. Drop the quality and the file gets smaller, which helps when a form has a size limit. A photo that was 2 MB as HEIC often lands near 1.5 to 3 MB as a high-quality JPG, since JPG is less efficient than HEIC.

Your photos never leave your device

The whole conversion runs in your browser using a decoder that loads on your device. Your photos are not sent to a server and are not stored. That matters for personal pictures and for ID photos you would not want sitting on someone else's computer.

FAQ

Why won't my HEIC photo open on Windows or a website?

HEIC is an Apple format. Older Windows versions and many websites do not support it. Convert it to JPG here and it will open anywhere.

Does converting to JPG lower the quality?

A little, because JPG uses lossy compression. At the default 92% quality the change is very hard to see. Lower the slider only when you need a smaller file.

Can I stop my iPhone making HEIC files?

Yes. Open Settings, then Camera, then Formats, and choose Most Compatible. The camera will save JPG from then on. Photos you already took stay as HEIC.

Can I convert many HEIC photos at once?

This page converts one at a time so you can set the quality for each. Convert one, download it, then drop in the next.

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. The conversion happens in your browser. Your photos stay on your device and nothing is saved.

Does it work on Android or Windows?

Yes. The tool runs in any modern browser on any device, since it does the decoding itself.

Is HEIC to JPEG different from HEIC to JPG?

No. JPG and JPEG are the same format, so this HEIC converter gives the same file either way. It turns an iPhone photo to JPG that opens anywhere: Windows, Android, and older programs.

Can I stop new photos being HEIC on an iPhone?

Yes. In Settings, open Camera, then Formats, and pick Most Compatible. New photos then save as JPG from the start. Photos already taken stay HEIC, which is what this page converts.
